BCBS of North Carolina to Evaluate Amniotic Fluid Injections for Coverage of Osteoarthritis and Plantar Fasciitis

Injection of amniotic fluid or amniotic fluid‒derived cells is currently being evaluated for the treatment of osteoarthritis and plantar fasciitis by Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina. Amniotic membrane and amniotic fluid are also being investigated as sources of pluripotent stem cells. Pluripotent stem cells can be cultured and are capable of differentiation toward any cell type. The next CAP Review is scheduled for 8/2019.
